Here we go, kids…

Fabric has been purchased for the Confessor dress. It’s a bit thin but that shouldn’t matter too much since it’s an overdress and is going to be worn inside the whole time (so will never be backlit.) I do have to figure out where I want to line it with satin; the canon dress appears to be lined everywhere but I don’t feel like doing that, I’m thinking the hood, and along the front where it needs to be reinforced for the lacing, will be the only mandatory parts.
So, pattern, dress fabric, skirt fabric — check. Just need to get satin for lining (tomorrow at the discount place), oil my sewing machine, and overcome my fear of cutting fabric and I can get started.
68 days until Dragon*Con!

Navy blue coveralls are here! Unfortunately I accidentally ordered medium-long instead of medium-reg so they're still kinda big, but I'm going to call the company tomorrow and find out if there's a difference in the torso length. If not, I'll just hem these instead of exchanging them and use the extra fabric to fix the pocket flaps (because apparently the photos on the website exactly the same product -- the ones I have only have a flap on one pocket. Only costumers care.) Waiting to find source for motor pool patch.
On that note, I think I'm putting my other coveralls up for grabs (my kahki, short-sleeved ones). Not canon (even though there are several different coveralls, none are short-sleeved) but would suffice. If anyone knows anyone who might want them, they can have them for the cost of shipping. (Patch not included.)
No progress on Confessor dress though. Haven't even gone back to get the fabric yet. I should probably get on that...

Is anyone interested in a girls-only workout board, along the lines of the TCF PT (physical training) forum or 300DC?
ninepointfivemm and I were having this discussion the other day and thought there's definitely a niche for it. There would definitely be a costuming component to it but it wouldn't be exclusive to con-goers/costumers. It's just that TCF is shutting down soon, and 300DC is... well, it is.
Just throwing around ideas at this point. Any suggestions or interested parties?

Going to mod this pattern for the Confessor dress.

Pattern suggests ~4.5yds for Dress A on a 60" bolt. I'm thinking an extra yd for the hood and for fuckups because I'm new to this whole making-garb-not-made-from-rectangles-and-t riangles thing. Basically, the sleeves will be cut off at the elbow, I'll cut a slit up the front and put the lacing there (unsure if I'll cave and put in grommets or actually try for the canon eyelets), and just sew the back straight up. Neckline will be modded for hood.
The dress itself is some kind of stretch crushed-velvet, but you can only tell from the hi-res promo shots, not really from the show itself, and it's lined with satin. HERE'S THE PLAN: the fabric I found at the place in Belleville over the weekend with
maereth is a stretchy, ivory-white satin with a dull back. I'm thinking just reverse the fabric because it's a good deal ($6/yd) and because I can't find any velvet. I already found a great fabric for the skirt and it was like $7 for 2.5yds.
Plans for more canon corset still undetermined, but I already have a black one so I'm not going to worry right now. I've still got a ton of black vinyl I was going to use for a Cylon flightsuit which would be plenty (the canon corset is a dark green but who cares, you can't see it.) It's also actually a cincher, so it would probably be REALLY easy to make the top part out of a spare bra and just cover the straps. I have some corset patterns but I forget what they look like, but a cincher can't be hard anyway.
Also, hairdye.
More photos for reference.

Several things happened today. There was graduation, complete with lack of hand-shaking and swine flu warnings. There was also a purchase made at the RU Bookstore.
Guess which one of these I'm more excited about?
( my priorities, let me show you them )
Now I can be a proper MadLibrary Scientist!
(So what do I write in it?
ataralas, halp.)
For those playing at home, the ISBN is 9780641696268 and it seems to be in stock at most B&N's (at least the ones near me, according to the website.)
Now, let's talk about something else that's really hilarious. As you do, I put in the ISBN to Amazon as well, because, hey, even though I bought this at the school bookstore (which is run by B&N) they usually do have B&N stuff on Amazon. Guess what's the only listing I find?
Check out the "other photographs."
OH WHAT.
Now check out the prices.
I LOL'd.

Do not appreciate being frakked over by American Idol on the DVR for Fringe. Um, thankfully Fox doesn't have the same 8-day delay Skiffy does in releasing episodes on Hulu? Fringe was awesome, BTW, although I do not for one second accept that Broyles just said what he said at the end and that was that, because I mean really.
Anyway, more important things.

Your regularly scheduled capslocking is replaced by a badly interpreted 2006-2009 budget spreadsheet for my collection development paper. Carry on.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS ISN'T REAL:
Tauntaun sleeping bag
On the other hand, minus the intestine-imprinted lining fabric, this could be made in a day...

ETA: Omg they've changed the disclaimer on the site that they might actually try to create it. That would be kind of amazing. Too bad it would still only fitsatan spawn munchkins (PROJECT KNOCK-OFF STILL ON-TRACK.)

So I was poking around eBay around 3am last night, as you do (FACT: Lucy Lawless has size 10.5 feet and L coat I WANT THIS OUTFIT GUYS), waiting for the latest Propworx items to load, and I noticed people selling other "BSG replicas," which I will now present to you, for the LOLZ.
EXHIBIT A: Tigh's hip flask (and cigarette holder.)
eBay "replica" -- $75 Buy Now
actual source -- $23
EXHIBIT B: Cain's knife
eBay "replica" -- $25 opening bid, $299 Buy Now (LOLOOLOLLLOLOLOL)
actual source -- $11
Sad part is that there are actually 17 bids on one of the flasks...

So this is what those kids get up to in Amsterdam these days...
Kid in the center is my mom's BFF's son. She [his mother] was trying to get him to do the Single Ladies dance at Christmas dinner but he wouldn't.
Turns out he's not bad, really. LOL.
